IPL Big Update: BCCI Extends Anti-Discrimination Code Even After Season Ends

BCCI Extends IPL Anti-Discrimination Code Beyond Season

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a major update regarding the IPL Anti-Discrimination Code, ensuring that players, officials, and stakeholders remain accountable even after the tournament ends.

According to the new rule, the code will continue to apply for three months after a participant’s contract ends, strengthening discipline and accountability across the league.

3-Month Rule: What It Means for Players & Officials

Under this new regulation, the Indian Premier League (IPL) will retain authority over all participants for up to three months post-contract.

Even more importantly, any misconduct that occurs during this period can still be investigated and punished even after the three-month window closes.

This means players and officials cannot escape accountability once the season is over.

Purpose of the Anti-Discrimination Code

The IPL Anti-Discrimination Code has been designed to:

  • Protect the league’s image and global reputation
  • Prevent offensive behavior based on race, religion, gender, or background
  • Ensure fairness and quick action against misconduct

The rule strictly prohibits any behavior—verbal, physical, or symbolic—that may insult, threaten, or humiliate anyone involved, including players, officials, or even spectators.

Strict Punishments for Violations

The BCCI has clearly outlined tough penalties for violations:

  • First Offence: 4–8 match suspension
  • Second Offence: 8 matches to lifetime ban
  • Third Offence: 1-year ban to lifetime suspension

In addition, offenders must undergo mandatory education or counselling programs to improve awareness and prevent future incidents.

Who Will Take Action?

The BCCI Ombudsman will handle all cases related to breaches of the IPL Anti-Discrimination Code.

However, one key point:
👉 Match results cannot be changed, even if a violation is proven.

How Complaints Will Be Reported

Reports of misconduct can be filed by:

  • Umpires
  • Match referees
  • Team managers
  • Authorized franchise officials
  • BCCI’s Game Development officials

All complaints must be submitted to the BCCI CEO within 36 hours of the incident, after which an official investigation will begin.

Mandatory Compliance for Franchises

Every IPL franchise is required to strictly follow this code.
Once a decision is made, it will be automatically enforced by both the BCCI and franchises without delay.

Final Take

This move by the BCCI clearly shows a strong commitment to maintaining discipline, inclusivity, and respect in the IPL. By extending the IPL Anti-Discrimination Code beyond the season, the board is ensuring that professional conduct is upheld on and off the field.
