The India Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 match has been officially confirmed for February 15 in Colombo. The decision came after high-level discussions between the ICC, Pakistan Cricket Board and Bangladesh Cricket Board in Lahore.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has cleared the team’s participation in the high-voltage clash. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi met the Prime Minister before the final approval was granted.
A PCB spokesperson stated that after reviewing the ICC communication, the Prime Minister directed the Pakistan team to play the February 15 game against India.
Earlier, Pakistan had indicated it could boycott the match following government advice. However, after the ICC-led discussions, the situation was resolved without any major concessions.
It is also understood that Prime Minister Sharif informed Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake about the decision. Sri Lanka Cricket had earlier requested PCB not to withdraw from the India fixture.
Sri Lanka Cricket warned that a boycott could cause significant financial losses for the host nation. The board also reminded Pakistan of Sri Lanka’s support during past security-related isolation periods.
No Sanctions on Bangladesh
The ICC has decided not to impose any penalties on the Bangladesh Cricket Board despite its earlier refusal to travel to India. Bangladesh was replaced by Scotland in the tournament.
BCB president Aminul Islam had appealed to Pakistan to play the India match for the benefit of global cricket.
The ICC confirmed there will be no financial, sporting or administrative sanctions on Bangladesh. The board also retains the right to approach the Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) under ICC regulations.
According to the ICC, its approach is based on neutrality and fairness rather than punishment.
Bangladesh to Host ICC Event Before 2031
As part of an understanding, Bangladesh will host an ICC event before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2031.
The 2031 World Cup is scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Bangladesh. The hosting agreement remains subject to ICC operational procedures and approval timelines.
With all disputes resolved, attention now shifts to Colombo for the blockbuster India Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 encounter on February 15.
