Dominant Delhi Capitals End RCB’s Perfect Start in WPL
Delhi Capitals produced a commanding all-round performance to register their third win of the Women’s Premier League season, bringing Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s unbeaten run to a halt with a convincing seven-wicket victory.
Capitals’ Bowlers Set Up Comfortable Chase
The match was shaped by Delhi’s disciplined bowling, led by Marizanne Kapp, who once again controlled the powerplay and struck at key moments. She dismissed Grace Harris and Georgia Voll cheaply and consistently restricted scoring, even though an early no-ball denied her the wicket of Smriti Mandhana.
Mandhana struggled initially but found brief momentum with a few boundaries before RCB lost wickets in quick succession. The breakthrough came when Harris edged to Laura Wolvaardt, triggering a collapse. Minnu Mani sustained the pressure in the middle overs, removing Mandhana and Richa Ghosh to leave RCB in deep trouble.
Attempts at recovery from Radha Yadav were cut short as Delhi’s bowlers smartly used slower deliveries on a surface that offered uneven bounce. Chinelle Henry and Nandini Sharma exploited the conditions well, helping bundle RCB out for 109.
In reply, Shafali Verma provided early intent with a flurry of boundaries before being stumped. A dropped catch gave Jemimah Rodrigues a second chance, and the Capitals skipper made RCB pay with a composed knock. Her steady partnership with Laura Wolvaardt took the game away from Bengaluru.
Rodrigues eventually fell while trying to accelerate, but Wolvaardt, supported by Kapp, calmly finished the chase. Delhi reached the target in just 15.4 overs, sealing a dominant win and moving up to second place on the points table.
