Several teams registered emphatic results on the fourth day of the Ranji Trophy round, with Madhya Pradesh climbing above Karnataka, while Mumbai and Tamil Nadu recorded dominant wins to strengthen their positions on the points table.
Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand Register Big Wins
Haryana wrapped up a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Assam after chasing down a modest target of 170. Earlier in the day, three-wicket spells from Aman Kumar and Tanmay Baloda saw Assam dismissed for 158. Openers Yuvraj Yogender Singh and Ankit Kumar laid a solid foundation with a quick 76-run partnership before skipper Ankit added an unbeaten 99-run stand with Ashish Siwach to seal the chase. The win lifted Haryana to second place with their fourth victory of the season.
Tamil Nadu notched up their first outright win of the season, thumping Odisha by 207 runs in Bhubaneswar. Set an imposing 454 to win, Odisha could not recover from early losses. Subhranshu Senapati (55) and Anil Parida (98) offered resistance, but regular breakthroughs from the Tamil Nadu bowlers ensured Odisha were bowled out for 247. Sonu Yadav, P Vidyuth, Sai Kishore and Nidhish Rajagopal shared the wickets, claiming two apiece.
Uttarakhand also cruised to a nine-wicket win over Tripura, chasing down 164 with ease after bowling them out for 258. Bhupen Lalwani (100) and Kunal Chandela (83)** put together an unbeaten partnership to finish the job. With the ball, Mayank Mishra starred again, picking up 4 for 80 to complete his second four-wicket haul of the match, helping Uttarakhand move to third on the table.
Mumbai Dominate Hyderabad; MP Outclass Karnataka
Mumbai completed a swift nine-wicket victory over Hyderabad in the opening session of the final day, needing just 10 runs to win. Hyderabad attempted a late fightback after resuming seven wickets down, with Chama Milind adding valuable runs alongside the tail. However, Musheer Khan’s five-wicket haul, following Sarfaraz Khan’s double-century earlier in the match, ensured Mumbai stayed firmly on top of the standings despite narrowly missing out on a bonus point.
Madhya Pradesh delivered a strong statement by handing Karnataka a 217-run defeat on home soil. After adding only 25 runs to their overnight score, MP declared to set a challenging target of 362. Aneesh KV’s 57 was the lone resistance as wickets fell steadily at the other end. Karnataka were further hampered by the absence of Karun Nair, replaced under the serious injury rule. Saransh Jain and Sagar Solanki claimed three wickets each as MP wrapped up the game shortly after Tea, moving ahead of Karnataka into second place.
Andhra, Maharashtra and Railways Also Shine
Andhra pulled off a commanding eight-wicket win over Vidarbha, chasing 259 with ease. Despite losing Srikar Bharat early, an unbeaten 145-run partnership between Shaik Rasheed (132) and Ricky Bhui (64)** powered Andhra to the top of Group A.
Maharashtra also enjoyed a comfortable outing, defeating Goa by eight wickets. Earlier, Jalaj Saxena’s five-for and Hitesh Walunj’s four-wicket haul restricted Goa to a low total. A brisk, unbeaten 52 from Arshin Kulkarni then guided Maharashtra to the target, taking them to the top of Group B.
Railways rounded off the day’s action with an eight-wicket win over Gujarat, chasing down 99 without fuss. Resuming at 69 for 2, they completed the task inside five overs. Earlier, Karn Sharma’s five-wicket haul had played a key role in restricting Gujarat to 347.
